Hi to all Broome Juniors

News 16th November 2008

Now that winter is almost upon us and Christmas is fast approaching it is a great time to either clean and pack away your angling equipment for next year or if you intend to fish through the winter then scale down your tackle and get out the winter woolies. Please note that if you do intend to fish , be extra careful around our lakes due to possible icy or waterlogged conditions. If you are packing your tackle away remember to check the condition of your reels and line. I always grease my reels and change the line at this time of year. Do not forget to clean other items of tackle as well. Remember also that small items of fishing tackle such as line and shot make great stocking fillers at Christmas but make sure that your parents know about your needs in plenty of time. Another area that tend to be neglected during winter is the elastic in your poles or whips, ensure these are kept lubricated and if you see any deterioration in the elastic such as nicks then make sure that the elastic is changed. Also use lighter elastic during the winter months, maximum number 8 elastic should suffice for the majority of occasions.

The fishing is as usual slowing down at this time of year but if you persevere you can still get some good catches especially on Colver and Jasons Pond. I fished Jasons Pond 2 weeks ago and netted 5 good sized Perch. The smallest of which was over 1lb and the 2 largest were well over 2lb and possibly reaching 3lb. They were caught using good old fashioned chopped worm and maggots down the side. Other good fish to target at this time are of course Chub and Pike. There have been numerous good sized Chub to 3lb taken by our match men out of Colver and a nice Pike of around 12lb from another of our lakes. The Carp fishing is slowing down as expected but on the day you can still get reasonable nets from Colver. A good time to fish throughout the year is dawn and dusk so for example if you are in danger of blanking and thinking about packing up persevere until dusk and in the majority of occasions you should be able to pick up some bonus fish. I use this tactic quite often during winter and even if it is the tiniest of Perch that is caught then it still makes the day worth while.

Lastly if you have any stories or images of good fishing days then do send them to me and I will put them straight away onto the web-site. Remember to get permission from your parents before doing so. You can find the link for my email at the bottom of this news page.

News 13th August 2008

Please note that due to the fact that no Junior attended this years match, the committee have unanimously decided to cancel the annual Junior match until further notice. Every Junior this year was sent a questionnaire which tried to ascertain the best date and whether there was any interest in holding the match at all. The response was very poor with only 3 returns. This combined with the zero turnout left us with no option than to cancel the annual match, an action which hopefully we will rescind if enough interest is shown in the future.

If any member has anything to say on this issue then please feel free to mention it at the 1/2 yearly meeting or by dropping me a line using the link at the end of the news page.

News 6th July 2008

Well the new Junior web site is up and running (Thanks to Tony for a great job), I have hopefully finally sorted out my PC problems and we have a new webmaster (Steve Beckhurst).

Now to the new web site, I shall within the next few weeks attempt to transfer some of the content of the old web site to the new version. Please bear with me for this task as there is quite a lot of work to be done.

As for any new content if any of you budding Junior anglers out there wish to contribute to the new site (e.g... Images, amusing stories and details of great fishing days) then do drop me a line with the content and I will incorporate it into the relevant web page. If you have any suggestions about the site then do contact me using the link below and I will try to take it on board

Anyway thats all for now

Regards Roy
